BIOGRAPHY: LDS Biographical Encyclopedia, Andrew Jenson, Vol. 4, p.620 Shumway, Wallace Everett, Bishop of the Shumway Ward, Snowflake Stake, Arizona, from 1915 to 1919, was born May 15, 1879, in Upper Kanab, Utah, a son of Wilson G. Shumway and Maria Averett. He was baptized Nov. 3, 1887, ordained a Seventy Sept. 19, 1906, by Brigham H. Roberts, filled a mission to the Southern States in 1908-1910, and was ordained a High Priest and Bishop Aug. 13, 1915, by Rudger Clawson. In 1920 he became a tax accessor for Navajo county and moved with his family to Holbrook. Wallace then got a position with the Maricopa county assessor's office in Phoenix and served there for 30 years. As a young man Wallace loved athletics. At age 16 he won the 4th of July foot race at Taylor, Arizona. He also sheared a sheep in two minutes and eight seconds to win a contest.
MARRIAGE: Wallace married Pearl Denham on Nevember 7, 1900. After he got married he bought a farm and built a house in Shumway. There, Wallace and Pearl started to raise a family.
DEATH: Wallace died at his home at 184 Granada, Phoenix, Arizona, 83 years after he arrived with his parents in Arizona at the age of 3 months.
