[181] BIOGRAPHY: Shortly after the birth of her son Amos, Pyrenia Averett Harper died. Her brother John Averett and his wife, Rebecca Hubbard, came to help Pyrenia take care of her children. Soon after, John Averett died in Sept 1852. Then Elisha Harper and Rebecca Hubbard Averett married and had two or three children. At this writing, 4 Apr 1881, they live in the same settlement and are quite wealthy. They seem to live mostly for the goods of this life and the good name they seem to seek after. Pyrenia's mother, Jennett Gill Averett, was living with the Harpers, helping to care for the motherless grandchildren. After his marriage to Rebecca Hubbard, Elisha Harper drove his first wife's mother a "kind, affectionate, helpless sickly widow from his house and from ever having anything to do with her own dear grandchildren, and doing and saying many outrageous acts and words, causing much grief to her." BURIAL: Journal of George Washington Gill Averett states: They were living in Pleasant Hill, Pike Co., Illinois. Pyrenia Averett Harper is buried in the graveyard known as the McMullin or John Sapp plot. The cemetery is on the bluff of the Mississippi river.
