[78] Alma's parents were Charles and Mary Louise (Walser) Whipple. Alma Virgil Whipple lost his mother, Mary, when he was six months old. Edwin J. Solomon and Christine Shumway raised him. Edwin J. Solomon died in 1936. Later on Christine Shumway Solomon married Alma's uncle, the brother of his mother, William Walser.
