Notes
Margaret gave birth to twelve children, six boys and six girls. Eight o
f her children grew to maturity. The greatest tragedy that befell upon u
s was when a siege of diptheria sturck the town of Joseph, Sevier, Utah
. We were living in this town when the diptheria struck. The diptheri
a killed 28 children. There were seven of Margaret's children down wit
h it at once. Two little brothers, age three and one six months old die
d within a week of each other. A baby girl was born ten days later and d
ied of summer complaint at ten months old. Our youngest brother, Aaron c
ame next. Another baby girl passed away at seven months. All this sorro
w to come to our mother in her later years. Aaron was born with clubfee
t and the family spent countless dollars to have them successfully straig
htened. In 1900, her husband decided to try ranching in Canada. Margare
t went with him and stayed two summers. Her health failed and she return
ed home to be nursed by her daughters for three months. She died 31 Marc
h 1903. Source: History of Eliza Averett by Millie Albison
