[230] CAUSE OF DEATH: On the 25th of August 1863 Charles and three other men went hunting a bear, which escaped. Well the bear found the men. First he charged at one man and tore his coat from his back. Charles came down from a tree to shoot the bear, but the animal quickly turned and grabbed him. The other men in the tree were afraid too, for fear of hitting Charles. The angry animal mutilated his body, which caused hi death six days later.
