SOURCE: 1840 Census, book 977.7 X22j1840. I again verified this in SLC a s Joyce Lindstrom claims one other girl age 15-20. I did not find this f emale in the 1840 census records that I checked. There was one other fem ale in the 1830 census under the age of 5, which would have put her in th e 15-20 age bracket on the 1840 census but she is not listed on the 184 0 census.



12-1-1841 Rebecca Ann Stewart purchased 40 acres in Lee Co., Iowa. Docum ent 3089 states land was SESE, Bk 19, 68 N. Township, 6W Range, 5th PM.Me ridian.
12-1-1841 John Gilbert Stewart and Ira Jefferson Stewart purchased 40 acr es in Lee Co., Iowa. Document 6830 states land was SWSW, Bk 20, 68 N. To wnship, 6W Range, 5th PM
As this is right next to the land purchased by Ira Jefferson and John Gil bert Stewart, I had assumed these were Rebecca's sons. Census records fr om 1860-1880 have Rebecca Stewart living with John Gilbert Stewart. Th e 1880 Census lists Rebecca Stewart as John G. Stewart's widowed mother w ho is living with him. I feel this is proof that John Gilbert Stewart i s the son of William Stewart and Rebecca Llewellyn Stewart. Researcher : Georgenia Stewart from 1997 to 2010.

NOTES: Ardelia was the youngest of 3 daughters (all illigitimate) born t o Rachel Swallows. Rachel was born 1821 to Jacob and Sarah Copeland Swall ows. Rachel filed a "bastardy case" in 1857 against a Jesse Harris for h er daughter, I assume this was Ardelia. I have had no luck finding out wh o Jesse Harris might be, may have just been passing through! though we ha ve lots of Harris' in Overton Co. Rachel and her sister, Polina, were arr ested more than once for operating a 'bawdy house'! Rachel had the 3 daug hters and never married and all 3 daughters had children but never marrie d.
