CENSUS: He is listed in the 1818 Madison County ILlinois census. Lists h im with one 21 or older white male, and one other white inhabitant. Rese archer: Debra Emery.

HISTORY: Abraham was about 18 years old when he moved with his father t o Fincastle Co., Va. in 1774. A year later he moved with his father to t he North Fork of the Clinch River, but moved back two years later due t o Indian uprisings. They settled along Glade's Creek, a branch of Crooke d Creek, a branch of New River in Montgomery (now Carroll) Co., Va. Abra ham served as a soldier from Fincastle Co., Va. in 1774. Abraham took ou t a land grant or patent 29 Oct. 1782 for 380 acres of land on a branch o f Glade's Creek, a branch of Crooked Creek, a branch of New River, whic h was then in Montgomery Co., Va. It was here that he met his wife, MAR Y WILLIAMS, the daughter of William and Jane Williams, settlers from Ches ter Co., Pennsylvania. Abraham received a lot of land lying in what beca me Wythe Co., Va. from his inlaws. They also witnessed some of his deed s for him because he acquired a lot of land while living in Virginia. I n 1795 he sold 180 acres of land to James Dodson in Grayson Co., Va. I n 1802, after he'd moved to Grainger Co., Tenn., he sold 200 acres of lan d to James Farmer and 200 acres of land to his younger brother, Isaac. H e gave up 400 acres of land, which he received from the Williams family b y not paying taxes on it and it was sold by sale the 15 Aug. 1816 in Wyth e Co., Va. In 1798 Abraham moved with his brother-in-law, William Willia ms, to Grainger Co., Tenn. Here is where his eldest child, Mary, marrie d in 1802. Shortly after that Abraham moved to Overton Co., Tenn. wher e he remained until 1812 when he moved with his married children to Madis on Co., ILl. He located a few miles south of the present town of Troy, w hich is located in Jarvis Township, and became one of the largest landhol ders in that township. According to the History of Madison Co., Ill., h e owned 1040 acres. He died 30 Aug 1834 in Madison Co., Illinois. His wi fe, Mary, preceded him in death. Both were buried in Daniel Reece's grav eyard, which no longer exists. When he died in 1834, he still owned 20 0 acres of land in Grayson Co., Va. A copy of his will is found at Edwar dsville, Madison Co., ILl. & in Grayson Co., Va.'s county court house.
