BIOGRAPHY: William M. Stewart was born 29 April 1823 in Tennessee accordi ng to his own Family Bible. He married Lavena Louisa Alice Swift (record ed in Family Bible as Lavena Louesa Allis) on Nov 23, 1847. Lou was bor n Sept 10, 1829 in Henry Co., Tennessee. Her birth date is found in Will iam's family Bible, and her place of birth has been determined from her f athers's residence in the 1830 census. William was a fine carpenter an d farmer. He made a clock of entirely hand carved wooden pieces. Durin g the Civil War he joined the Confererate forces, and while on sick leav e he was shot by bushwhackers with a poisoned bal as he was climbing a sm all fence or wall. He was ill for a few days before he died on Sept 5, 1 863. Lou raised the five children with the help of her two sons. (Colum bus was sent to Texas to live with Marcellus M. Swift's family during th e Civil War.) Lou was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church in the Mu lberry Valley, and about 1875 she married William Allison Hill another me mber of the same church. He had helped with the maintenance of the famil y and kept them from going hungry. They lived in Franklin Co., Arkansas , where Lou died June 1, 1890. She is buried in Beach Grove Cemetery bes ide William. She and Allison had no children from their marriage. She h ad five children from her marriage to William Stewart as follows, Christo pher Columbus, Hardenia Burnley Haybatle Syoty, Joseph Warren, Amanda Mel vina, and Lavena Caroline (Callie).
