HISTORY: William Howard and Elizabeth Reece were first cousins. They'r e listed in the 1830 census of Fayette county, Illinois, the 1840 censu s of Lee Co., Iowa, and were living in Dallas county, Texas in 1851 whe n William applied for a military pension for serving in the War of 1812 . They had twelve children of which three are known: Nancy Howard, Mar y (Polly) Howard, and Abraham Howard.

BIOGRAPHY: What was known as the Howard Settlement, in what is now Ceda r Township, was declared to be the Sixth Precinct,Lee Co., Iowa and the h ouse of Joseph Howard the voting-place.
