Birth Variation: 2 Sep 1901

Death: Christina Shumway, Vernell's sister moved to Caliente to keep hou se for Vern who had lost his wife and was working in Caliente. She had o nly lived there a year or two when Vern died of a heart attack .

HISTORY: While Vern was still an infant his folks moved by wagon to Alam o, Nevada. Vern spent most of his life in Alamo. After his last child, N olan Franklin died, they went up to stay with Enola's folks while Enola w as in bed with the baby. While they were gone, the house on Andy's ranc h burned down. The fire burned everything that Vern and Enola had, bu t a few clothes and some bedding. It also burned all of Andy and Ione' s furniture.
In 1939 they built a home on the West side of the valley. After Enola p assed away, Vern bought old Lucinda Brown home in Alamo and lived there . Vern took a job with the Lincoln County range feed project for the Univ ersity extension service. He moved to Caliente. He lived there a few ye ar when he was suddenly stricken with a heart attack. He was dead when t he men he was working with got to where he had fallen. This was the 31 o f January 1956.
