HISTORY: Maria Barbara Zerwe or Zerbe was christened 20 Nov 1725 at Eas t Camp, Livingston Manor, New York, the daughter of John Jacob Zerwe or Z erbe and Maria Catharine Leik or Leick. She was named after her grandmoth er, Maria Barbara Lei or Leick. When she was two years old, she migrate d with her parents to Tulpehocken, Lancaster (now Berks) County, Pennsylv ania. There she grew up in a German Lutheran community with many relative s around her. Like the Laux or Loucks family, this family also migrated f rom Germany to New York in 1709/10.
