NOTES:
In an effort to find when Christopher Granger emigrated, a check was mad e in the church emigration records. We were fortunate to find that
Christopher sailed Jan 10, 1852, on the Ship, "Kennebec". Along with hi m was his mother, Jane Grainger, age 74, and a Mary A. Carr, age 10, als o Ann Carr, age 34. The residence given at the time of sailing was 163 Hi gh Street, Sunderland in Durham. Again we were fortunate in as much as th e 1851 census is on microfilm here in the Library. A search was made fo r 163 High Street, where we found that Christopher was living with his si ster, Ann Carr, and her daughter, Mary Ann Carr.
In the census Christopher gave the information that he was a widow er and was born in Asenby, which is the parish of Topcliffe Yorkshire. N o doubt it is new information to you that Jane Horner came to America. Th e only endowment card filed for her is under Mrs. Wm. Granger, born Topcl iffe Yorkshire. This was done at the Instance of Charlotte, S. H. Haigh t a great-granddaughter.
An endowment card for Christopher's grandfather, William gave Arse nby as William's birth place., and the name of William's mother is Mary T hornby . This information will no doubt be proven with further research . It would appear that Christopher was re-baptized on March 8, 1857 at M ill Creek.
