BIOGRAPHY: In the year of 1880, the citizens of the district came togeth er as unit inspired by a desire for higher education and erected a commo dious academy school bulding, thereon to be know as Oak Hill Institute . This structure is still used today as Oak Hill Church. Students cam e from many areas of Overton County and surrounding counties. They boarde d in the best homes in the community for $1.50 to $1.75 per week. Durin g 1883-84 school tuition cost $6 per term in the Primary Dept; $9 per ter m in the Intermediate Dept; $12 per ter in the Academic Dept and $15 pe r term in the Collegiate Dept.
