SURNAME: For generations the surname of Samuel Stewart's wife, Lydia, ha s been assumed to be Harrison. The Harrison family of Sussex Co., Delawa re definitely moved to and settled in Augusta Co., Virginia. Since ther e was an Isaiah Harrison and Samuel and Lydia named a son, Isaiah, many p eople have assumed tha Lydia's maiden surname was Harrison. But there' s no proof concerning this, except that she named a son, Isaiah. Researc her: Joyce Lindstrom.

WILL: In the same year that Samuel made out his will, he passed away. O n 11 January 1771, just three years later, Lydia made a will and as the r ecords show she undoubtedly died almost immediately after making the will , because the deat date and will date are shown on the record as the sam e day. This probably isn't the case, but certainly she didn't live long a fter she made the will. Samuel ha willed the specific property to his fou r older sons and so in Lydia's will she willed specifically to the othe r children, however, she did mention all the different ones in the will w hich is as follows:
"In the name of God, Amen. I, Lydia Stewart of Rowan County in North Caro lina, being weak of body, but of perfect mind and memory, thanks be give n unto God, d dispose of my worldly estate as follows: I will that out o f my estate, a list t be obtained for a certain tract of land on the sout h side of the Yadkin River, adjoining Benjamin and James Herson's land, a nd if such title can be obtained, to be sold and the sales thereof to b e equally divided unto my beloved sons, David, Samuel, John, Joseph, an d Isaiah Stewart.
Item: I give and bequeath unto my granddaughter, Lydia, the daughter o f my son David, my bed and furniture there unto belonging.
Item: I give unto my son DAVID, my bed and furniture thereunto belonging . Item: I give unto my son Benjamin an iron pot now in his possession.
Item: I give unto my son Joseph's daughter, Lydia, a heifer or a young c ow.
Item: I bequeath unto my beloved sons, David, Samuel, Isaiah and John St ewart, all the rest of my estate to be equally divided amongst them, an d their heirs. do nominate and appoint my sons David Stewart and Samue l Stewart executors of this, my last will and testament, Ratifying, allow ing, and confirming this to b my Last Will and Testament and do utterly d isannul all former wills by me made in testimony whereof I set my hand an d seal. January 11, 1771." (Please note that Lydia Stewart made out he r will stating she lived in Rowan County, North Carolina. Actually Surr y Co, North Carolina was created from Rowan Co. in 1770.)
