Abraham was about 18 years old when he moved with his father to Fincastl e Co., Va. in 1774. A year later he moved with his father to the North F ork of the Clinch River, but moved back two years later due to Indian upr isings. They settled along Glade's Creek, a branch of Crooked Creek, a b ranch of New River in Montgomery (now Carroll) Co., Va. Abraham served a s a soldier from Fincastle Co., Va. in 1774. Abraham took out a land gra nt or patent 29 Oct. 1782 for 380 acres of land on a branch of Glade's Cr eek, a branch of Crooked Creek, a branch of New River, which was then i n Montgomery Co., Va. It was here that he met his wife, MARY WILLIAMS, t he dasughter of William and Jane Williams, settlers from Chester Co., Pen nsylvania. Abraham received a lot of land lying in what became Wythe Co. , Va. from his inlaws. They also witnessed some of his deeds for him bec ause he acquired a lot of land while living in Virginia. In 1795 he sol d 180 acres of land to James Dodson in Grayson Co., Va. In 1802, after h e'd moved to Grainger Co., Tenn., he sold 200 acres of land to James Farm er and 200 acres of land to his younger brother, Isaac. He gave up 400 ac res of land, which he received from the Williams family by not paying tax es on it and it was sold by sale the 15 Aug. 1816 in Wythe Co., Va. In 1 798 Abraham moved with his brother-in-law, William Williams, to Grainge r Co., Tenn. Here is where his eldest child, Mary, married in 1802. Sho rtly after that Abraham moved to Overton Co., Tenn. where he remained unt il 1812 when he moved with his married children to Madison Co., ILl. H e located a few miles south of the present town of Troy, which is locate d in Jarvis Township, and became one of the largest landholders in that t ownship. According to the History of Madison Co., Ill., he owned 1040 ac res. He died 30 Aug 1834 in Madison Co., ILlinois. His wife, Mary, prece ded him in death. Both were buried in Daniel Reece's graveyard, which n o longer exists. When he died in 1834, he still owned 200 acres of lan d in Grayson Co., Va. A copy of his will is found at Edwardsville, Madis on Co., ILl. & in Grayson Co., Va.'s county court house.
