The following is from A History of Two Families by Clayton Boyce and Dori
s Forbes Boyce, information provided by Linda Mae Boyce-Morgan:
John Leroy Boyce, who went by his middle name, was born July 18, 189
4. At this writing, I cannot recall the date of his death. He was a youn
g man when the United States entered World War I. As the time approache
d when he could be drafted into the army, at his father's urging, he join
ed the United States Navy. When his Navy service was over and he came bac
k home, he brought with him a wife and small son.
My only remembrance of my Uncle Leroy relates to those occasions whe
n our faintly would come to Seattle to visit. I remember him as a big, he
arty man, somewhat larger than life to me at my age then. I particularl
y remember one time when we went to their house and after going in, we fo
und Uncle Leroy in the bathroom, shaving. I remember him with shaving cre
am all over his face, greeting me with a big grin, putting his hand out
, and exclaming, "Hack on, there!"
Leroy had met Evelyn Rudolph in New York City, I believe. They had thre
e children, John Nathaniel "Buddy" Boyce (who has been deceased for man
y years), June, and Georgina, who was called "Gigi" or "Giggy" (I never k
new how to spell this nickname). I never really knew Buddy Boyce, althoug
h I remember seeing him a few times. During the times when I would stay w
ith my grandmother on San Juan Island, I remember June being there at th
e same time on at least one occasion, and perhaps more. I seem to remembe
r Gigi also being there at least one of the times I stayed with or visite
d Grandma Boyce
Somewhere along the way, Gigi more or less dropped out of sight an
d has had little or no contact with the family for years. June married Ge
ne Dell and lived in Seattle. Gene died some years ago. Some time after G
ene's death, June suffered a stroke which left her somewhat incapacitated
. Early in our married years, Doris and I visited June and Gene upon occa
sion, but we have had no contact with June in recent years. I understan
d she Ii living with her daughter somewhere in the area.
BIRTH: Also shown as Born Friday Harbor, , Washington.
